UBC has announced last November 2021 that it has purchased a 135,000 square feet real estate site near King George Boulevard and Fraser Highway (near Surrey Memorial Hospital) for $70 million. UBC will be joining other educational institutions like SFU and Kwantlen Polytechnic that already have campus’ in the area.
Some of the field of studies that the future UBC Surrey Campus will offer are medical, dentistry and other health practice programs. As we are seeing a shortage of healthcare workers especially since the pandemic started in early 2020, these healthcare programs will benefit the future and a positive initiative to meet the demands of our healthcare system.
It’s certainly good news for Surrey as access to education is vital to a growing economy and the wellbeing of the people and city. Population continues to grow and people are moving to areas where living costs are affordable and have career opportunities.
